The South Charlotte Sports Report is excited to offer a special night time Prep Basketball Academy and Youth Skills Camp at Community House Middle School. The camp is broken into two unique groups. The younger players will focus on skill development, games and shooting the basketball while the rising 7th-10th graders will receive advanced coaching designed to prepare each player for the middle and high school basketball experience.
The Prep Basketball Academy is the perfect end of the summer experience for rising 7th-10th graders that plan to tryout for the middle and high school basketball teams. This intense training session will deliver the valuable lessons needed to find success in the middle and high school game. Action will be fast paced as we focus on the skills needed to win a position on your school team. As your child climbs their way to high school basketball, they will need to be prepared for a more demanding experience on the hardwood. Coach Mike Craft and other high school coaches will share all the information needed to prepare each camper for the next few years of basketball.
Our youth camp is all about improving each child's skill set and adding laughter and excitement to the mix. We believe younger players will improve more on the court if they are laughing, smiling and competing with old and new friends. Our goal is to improve the basic mechanics of the game by pushing the kids to improve through fun activities. Parents will be invited to attend and participate on the final night of the basketball camp. The children will love this opportunity to compete against Mom or Dad.
Over the last six years, The South Charlotte Sports Report has hosted over 30 basketball camps. With each camp, we see more and more return customers. Plain and simple, our basketball camp focuses on the development of basketball fundamentals. Without a strong fundamental base, a basketball player will be limited in how far they can advance.
Under the leadership of Ardrey Kell High School Head Coach and former Davidson College basketball assistant coach Mike Craft and veteran Youth basketball coach Tripp Roakes we provide a well qualified staff of coaches to work with your children. In only four years, Coach Craft has taken Ardrey Kell to a Sectional Championship and a Conference Championship in the very difficult Southwestern 4A Conference. He is considered by many to be the top high school coach in Mecklenburg County.
Each child will receive instruction on shooting, moving without the ball, dribbling, defense, passing and rebounding. We maintain a low coach to camper ratio allowing the campers to get to know all the coaches on a first name basis. We also strive to keep campers in the same groups with their friends and other players their age. Our camps are designed to place campers in position to succeed inside the camp and beyond.
In addition to other high school coaches, we will be joined by college athletes from the area that are eager to pass their skills on. Many of these college players once played at the local recreation associations and schools in the area!
